It might have been a bad night for Ronda Rousey but it was a great night for her bank account as the former champ made approximately $4 million in the 48 seconds she lasted in the octagon against Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in Las Vegas.
According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission Rousey received $3 million from the UFC as her fight purse. Most fighters get a specified amount of money to show then get an addition amount if they win. Rousey got a flat $3 million from the UFC despite the loss. In addition to the $3 million “Rowdy” also got $30,000 from Reebok for wearing their gear in the octagon. Each fighter gets a set amount from the apparel company depending on their number of fights in the promotion, their spot on the card and whether or not they are a champion.
Rousey also has pay per view points built into her contract with the UFC. That means she gets a percentage of every pay per view she appears on. With it being estimated that UFC 207 did 1.1 million buys it means that her cut of the pay per view revenue is likely around $1 million, perhaps a little more. To put 1 million buys in perspective UFC 206 did 150,000 buys. So as you can see Rousey is rewarded for how well the shows she appears on.
The UFC typically rewards fighters who told titles with points on pay per view. Other marquee names like Brock Lesnar and Georges St. Pierre also have it built into their contracts.
Rousey could take her $4 million and ride off into the sunset or she could decide to fight again. The former champ has decided to take some time off to think about what’s next. We could see her make the jump to WWE and participate on a big show like Wrestlemania 33 in April. Rousey has been a wrestling fan for years and it wouldn’t be too hard to get her to get in the squared circle if Vince McMahon and the WWE had interest.
We’ll have to wait and see what Rousey wants to do. Whatever it is she will make a lot of money.
