Two of Hollywood’s finest, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence proved to the world last year in Silver Linings Playbook that they had chemistry in American Hustle. Now they are trying to recapture that magic in a star studded cast that also features Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner in this picture set in the 70s.
The reviews for American Hustle are mixed as you can see below but the film was just released out on Redbox Instant and you can now watch it on your computer. Check out the Redbox Link below to watch it with a free trial.
I really disliked the second half of ‘Silver Linings Playbook.’ I thought the dance contest and the escalating bets were idiotic and spoiled all the good will earned in the first half of the film. ‘American Hustle’ is a hundred times more fun to watch.
While “American Hustle” disappoints from a story standpoint and fails its perceived status as a worthwhile Oscar contender, it still satisfies on the strength of its wholly entertaining cast of characters and visually appealing look and feel. It may not leave much of a mark upon first blush, but its bold highlights seem engineered to ensure decades of fans yelling out about “science ovens” and hoping that someone will recognize such brilliance.
“American Hustle” may have an awkward start, especially as it takes a moment to get used to Russell’s style and tone, but once “Hustle” finds its footing it really takes off and is one of the most intelligent and enjoyable films of the year.
This terrific fact-fiction mashup revolves around the late 1970s-early 1980s Abscam scandal, in which FBI agents and con artists joined together to catch pols taking illegal cash. The movie itself works like a great shell game. No matter how closely you watch, “American Hustle” surprises you.
