Captain Phillips has Hollywood buzzing about Tom Hanks’ role as a captain of a boat at seas who gets hijacked by Somali pirates. The film is based on a true story and will likely be up for some awards later this year. Captain Phillips isn’t a big time popcorn flick that relies on special effects but rather storytelling and acting. And as you can see it’s certainly getting good reviews. Captain Phillips just came out on Redbox Instant and you can now watch it on your computer. Check out the Redbox Link below to watch it with a free trial.
“Captain Phillips” is such an impressive dramatic achievement that it comes as a shock when it gets even better, during a devastating final scene in which Hanks single-handedly dismantles Hollywood notions of macho heroism in one shattering, virtually wordless sequence. That moment, as purely emotional as what went before has been kinetic, makes “Captain Phillips” yet another Greengrass masterpiece.
Craftsmanship and technical contributions are first-rate all the way, while Henry Jackman’s electronic score throbs underneath most of the action.
The second half of 2013 is becoming one of the strongest seasons in years, and “Captain Phillips” features Tom Hanks at the top of his game. It’s hands-down one of the year’s best films.
If you want to be blown away by special effects better wait until the Spring for it to come out on Redbox or Netflix. It will be available on DVD in March but will probably leak online when the screeners hit for the Academy awards in December.
