Chewbacca Episode 8

Unkar Plutt Could Have Big Role in Episode 8 After Disney Nixes Scene With Chewbacca in Force Awakens

Chewbacca had a major scene that wound up on the cutting room floor. Originally Unkar Plutt had his arm ripped off by the Wookie in Maz Kanata’s castle on the planet Takodana.

Plutt was first seen on Jakku early in the movie interacting with Rey (Daisy Ridley). He also made an offer to buy BB-8 but he couldn’t get the droid before Rey and Finn stole the Millennium Falcon, left the planet and wound up meeting up with Chewbacca and Han Solo.

Plutt found his way to Maz’s place in the deleted scene and started bullying Rey. Chewie wasn’t too happy about it and got into it with Plutt. Plutt started poking Chewbacca’s injured arm and wound up having his arm ripped off and thrown across the room.

This scene was likely deleted for two reasons.

1. Plutt will be seen again in Episode 8. He is intertwined with Rey and in her flashbacks we see him. If we find our who her parents are Plutt could have a relationship with them and could be on Jakku to keep an eye on her.

2. The scene could have been too violent for Disney and that’s why they took it out. I think it would’ve added to the film and given old school Star Wars fans a reminder about how dangerous Chewbacca really is. Remember in A New Hope when Han Solo told Luke Skywalker, “Let the Wookie Win”? Han alluded to him tearing people’s arms off.

Episode 8 will be out in December. We still don’t know what the title will be. Forces of Destiny has been the rumored title online but we won’t officially know until Disney tells us sometime in the next few months. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has hinted that the new trailer will drop in the Spring. The Star Wars Celebration takes place in Orlando this year April 13-16. Another potential spot for the new trailer is before Disney’s Guardian of the Galaxy that hits theaters on May 5. If the studio wanted to give the film a little bump they could put it out there that the trailer for Episode 8 will be in front of Guardians 2. Hardcore Star Wars fans would turn out in droves to get a sneak peak to see what Rey, Finn, Luke and Chewie are up to in the next installment of the franchise.

There are all kinds of rumors about what will take place in Episode 8. The Knights of Ren are thought to be make an appearance with Kylo Ren and we could see a showdown between them Luke and Rey. With the death of Carrie Fisher Disney could alter the original plans for her character and make it easier to write her out of Episode 9.

We’ll just have to see what Disney does when Episode 8 comes out on Dec. 15, 2017.
