Watch Saving Mr Banks on Redbox instead of theaters

Everyone loves Tom Hanks and everyone also Walt Disney. So when you take a film with Tom Hanks playing Walt Disney surely it will be a hit, right? Tom Hanks already has one his this year with Captain Phillips that did well when it was released a few months ago. Can he do it again?

The reviews for Saving Mr Banks are mixed as you can see below but the film was just released out on Redbox Instant and you can now watch it on your computer. Check out the Redbox Link below to watch it with a free trial.

“Saving Mr. Banks” has all of the pieces in place to earmark it as a masterpiece – a stirring story, real life roots, wonderful performances, and a rich visual background – but it doesn’t fully deliver on its promise. There’s charm and delight here, to be sure, but it is occasionally obscured by attempts to make it somehow darker, deeper, and more dramatic.

Which brings us to Tom Hanks, who doesn’t quite seem like Walt Disney, but more like Tom Hanks in a wig and a mustache. His Midwestern accent goes in and out, with a dash of John Huston here and some Lionel Barrymore there.

“Mr. Banks” is directed by John Lee Hancock (“The Blind Side”), who obviously does well with syrupy tales. But even if this comes off like an ad for Disney, it’s convincing and contains some of Disney’s patented magic — especially with a predictable, yet effective, emotional ending. To expect anything different from Disney wouldn’t be realistic.

Gorgeously shot and witty without being jokey, “Saving Mr. Banks” saves itself from cookie-cutter emotion with just the right sprinkling of reality.

There you go. It looks like a hit but I’d wait and watch it at home instead of the theater.
